Opening new IE window closes the first one

When I right-click on a link and selects "Open in new window", the new window
opens fine. The problem I have is that the original window closes down at the
same time (they are open simultaneously for less than a second, then the
first one dissapears).

If I have a browser open and starts a new IE, the new browser will open with
my default home page and the already existing browser will be closed.

My question is if this can in any way be a setting (in IE, windows or the
virus program) or if my XP is screwed up. Do I need to reinstall the whole XP
in that case or can just IE be reinstalled?

Quite a new PC, XP SP2, windows update and Norton virus updates run
regulary. IE 6 SP2

Hi,
From IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> uncheck "Reuse windows
for launching shortcuts."

And... you may have a toolbar or program running which is blocking pop-up
windows- something like Yahoo toolbar, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, etc.
The Yahoo toolbar is a very common cause. Disabling the pop-up blocker may
allow a second window to open. Or you may have to uninstall the toolbar.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Don, but that didn't help. I have Back On Track installed, a program
that lets you roll back to a defined point. I used that and got IE to work as
normal again (with the prize of having to reinstall everything since).

I have still no clue to what happened...
