XP machine died. Am a newbie with Vista Home Premium and the bundled
'Windows Mail" Email client, (WinMail). Have used OE in the past on an XP
machine before opted for OUTLOOK. Now evaluating WinMail before deciding on
Windows Live OUTLOOK 2007 or Thunderbird, Eudora etc.
Am experiencing a problem with WinMail opening MSFT WORD attachments. When
double clicking the attachment, am getting message "This file does not have
a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an
association in the Set Associations control panel." When I go to check the
default file association, it is already associating file type "DOC" with
Microsoft Office Word. (I have WORD2007.) If I save the attachment with
"save as", it defaults the file type to "DOC", (sender probably using WORD
97 - 2003), then I can then open it with WORD2007. Have not experienced the
same problem with opening attached "JPG" or "PDF" or AOL Email messages;
that is, it will open just by double clicking on the icon/label. Any ideas
or suggestions. Thanks in Advance.
