Can't open *.doc attachments

J

Jill & Ellis

If I receive a WORD *.doc file as an attachment to an e-mail, I cannot open
the file because WINDOWS MAIL reports that no association has been set for
this type of file.

I can save the file to disk, and then open it, because the correct
association HAS been set.

Any suggestions?

I get the same problem in Windows Vista Home Premium.
Windows mail asks if I want to open the DOC file.
I say "yes".
Then windows mail says that I should set association for DOC using Control
Panel.
However, the association for .doc was already set in file association
preferences.

Update on "try this fix"
I tried the URL you suggested and it did not work until I went into Set Registration , changed program for DOC to Adobe and then changed back to Word. Interestingly the Description changed from "DOC FILE" to "Microsoft Word Document". Then I was able to click on the attachment and have the attachment open in word.

Thanks for info. I also tried this fix and it did not work. I went back into
set associations panel and changed the program and then changed it back. Mine
also changed description from DOC to Microsoft Office Word 97-2003 Document.
It seems to have worked but don't know why. Any ideas? Also, should I remove
the DocFix from my computer?

It is not at all uncommon in the computer world to have to toggle a setting
on and off a few times before it 'takes'.
I'm not familiar with DocFix. You are more likely to find Microsoft Office
experts in the Office newsgroups than in this newsgroup.

Bob, you quoted me in your response along with the OP.
Was your request aimed at me?

If you follow the link, that I provided, (that you quoted), you will note
that the thread started back in September, the MS news servers only retain
messages for 90 days, so the OP only saw the 'me too' posts that arrived
within that time frame.
HTH?

I didn't even have an "attachment"-problem, just a
"file-association"-problem (Ofiice 2007 & Vista), and the fix also worked.
Thanks a lot! You made my day :)
