Attached Word documents in Windows Mail

M

Michael, Coventry

I use Windows Mail and Vista. When I receive an attached Word document,
Windows Mail does not let me open it, saying I need to create an association.
But when I checked, the association HAS been set between .doc files and Word.
I can view the documents by saving them then opening them using Word, but
it's a real pain!

But as a precaution It's A Good Idea. When you open a Word document from
within the mail program, the only copy of it on your system goes into the
Internet cache, which gets flushed from time to time. I know quite a few
people who've lost documents this way.

On our old system (XP) when writing an email we would just put in the 1st
couple letters of someone's address & it would fill out the rest
automatically. Now with Vista this does not happen. we have gone into
Tools & checked the box for automatically filling in addresses, but still it
does not work.

The auto-complete in Windows Mail doesn't work correctly.. and when it does,
it only recalls the last 29 addresses.

It does work correctly in the newer Windows Live Mail.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, the fix didn't work. Neither did
reinstalling Office, as suggested by the Microsoft Support site.

Make sure you don't absentmindedly start editing a document that has
been opened from within Windows Mail because you will lose all your
edits.

Sorry to hear that the fix did not work for you.
I don't have any other suggestions, except that you can try
upgrading to Windows Live Mail.
