Opening Attachments (mainly Word documents) from Mail.

I am having a problem with trying to open Word Documents from Mail. When
ever I try to open the attachment I get an error message that specifies the
following:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this
action. Create an association in the Set Association control planel."

I have made this correction in the Set Assocaition control panel, but the
error message continues to persist.

Can anyone please provide some assistance.
