opening more than one window at a time

I recently reinstalled McAfee virus protection after trying a free program
from Computer Associates provided through RoadRunner. Since then (or soon
thereafter) I started having problems opening more than one Internet window
at a time. I can open Outlook or other programs and an Internet site at the
same time, but if I try to open more than one Internet site, it opens a new
window and automatically closes the other. It is very frustrating especially
when checking my hotmail account and trying to open links in the messages. I
have to keep reopening hotmail after completing the other task, etc.

Anyway, I tried opening Internet Options from an open window, but I couldn't
find anything that would help. Also, in the past, sometimes new windows
would open for each site I would go to (through a link, etc.) and other times
it would just open the link in the same window. What causes that and how do
you make it open a new window all the time?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS. I assume I am having a problem with Windows XP as this never happened
before and I had McAfee for the last 3 or 4 years until I tried the CA
program at the beginning of Sept.

While I can't help with your problem, perhaps a tabbed browser will work for
you. Instead of opening up a new instance of Internet Explorer for each
site, you can open up a new tab in the browser for each site. I use Maxthon
which is a shell that runs over Internet Explorer. You may want to give it
a shot.
