I have a choice of a program, that I want to use for a filetype, but it
won't appear in the list after I have located it.

I have go into the registry and removed the link with the other porgram that
were there.....

where is the location that the pc hold the initial list of Open With
programs, then if it isn't there, you choose Browse?

Regards.
Paul.

Not sure where the info is stored - usually after you've browsed and
selected it once, it appears in the list. But why not just associate the
file type(s) with the program you wish, in folder options | file types?

Because, which ever way I do it, the program I am trying to use to open the
required file will not appear on the list, it has all happened since the I
did the following.

Downloaded Winvice (C64 Emulator)
Associated .PRG with X64.exe within a folder called "WinVICE-1.13"

all well sofar, then Winvice was updated, so I downloaded the latest
version, "WinVICE-1.14"
Unzipped, and proceeded to delete the folder "WinVICE-1.13"

then I forgot about the association thing, and double clicked a ".PRG"
extension, to get a box saying unable to locate the file, X64.exe, so I
thought ok, i'll point it to the new "X64.exe" and it didn't work, and since
then, I can't Open With... or create anything from "Folder Options/File
Types"

So there is my problem... :(

Hi Paul,

Check to see that it is listed here: Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\FileExts

Also: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications
Select the associated sub-key, if 'NoOpenWith' is listed, delete it.

Other than that, go to Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types and
verify that it is listed under Application Action.

Good luck!
