I have a few of my favorites as shortcuts on my desktop. When I am in IE and
click on one, it opens the new page in the existing IE session. How do I
make the shortcuts open up a new IE session?? Thanks

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".

Also, if you have Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
Earthlink (or another pop-up blocker) My IE2 (a shell for IE) etc.
Yahoo Companion is a very common cause.

You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program (especially uninstall Yahoo Companion).

With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will allow
a new window.

If you're *sure* that another program isn't causing this, these links may
help.

I have the opposite problem, Frank. I want it to open in the same windows,
and nothing happens no matter what I check or set. What is wrong? #21 and
#46 didn't help me.

Thanks,
Candy

Your message isn't very explicit. Did you check "Reuse windows for
launching shortcuts"?

I think I was very explicit. I was responding to your response to IKE. In
that, you mentioned this link

http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFAQ.htm

and specifically mentioned numbers 21 and 46. I was telling you that those
did not work for me.

And yes, I do have “reuse windows†checked.

I have made sure that my

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and my URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with
Privacy

all say the proper things in the proper boxes, too. But, I have to re-do
this each time I reboot.

What can I do to make these settings “stick Will I have to do this each
time I do a software update, no matter on which program I do it? (I had done
a QuickBooks update between making these changes and when I finally
rebooted).

Is this more explicit for you?

In URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol what does the Application used to perform
this action change to?
