Desktop Short-Cuts not Working

I installed, and then uninstalled IE 7 B2 because my desktop shortcuts would
no longer work.

Now, if I click on an IE shortcut, it opens IE, but nothing else...it
doesn't open the page that is listed in the properties of the shortcut...I
have tried deleting the shortcuts and making new ones, both from IE (file ->
send) as well as from the desktop (right click, new -> shortcut) but without
success...

When I uninstalled IE7B2 and reinstalled IE6, I did go back and get all the
necessary updates via the Windows Update site...

So...what do I have to do to correct this issue?
