Only one IE Browser allowed

Jason

My IE Browser only allows one IE window to be allowed
open. When trying to open a new IE window from the start
menu or from "Open in a new window" the current IE window
closes out and the new window is the only window open.
This is very annoying and i often lose webpages and
information i need. "Reuse windows for opening
shortcuts" does not have any affect. What am i to do to
fix this? Please help me.

I am having the exact same problem, and nobody knows why.

Also, Doron posted an hour ago with same problem, and
Phil posted same problem a few hours ago too. He has
tried everything. No luck. I think IE has a serious
problem, and Microsoft has reckonized or corrected yet.

Frank Saunders keeps replying that it is Reuse windows
tab begin checked, but this option does not affect.
Problem still persistent.

Can someone please help us? Perhaps, it is a virus not
id'ed yet by Macafree.

Having same problem, tried the proffered remedy, did not
work. My default settings have both interactive and
system. Also my "Reuse window for launching shortcuts"
is not checked. Still have the problem.

This is the former clue from Henri which yielded results for me:

And this is the specific one that fixed my particular instance of the problem posted to ng on 3/21/04 in thread for:" "open in new window" no longer works "

I can no longer use the right-click option to open a link in a new window.
The option is in the right-click menu, but when i use it, nothing happens.

i did a scan of the ng, and didn't see anything on this -- any ideas?

thanx!

Hope this helps some people, I just fixed this problem,
it started after I downloaded yahoo! messenger. So I
uninstalled the Yahoo! toolbar, kept Yahoo! messenger,
just got rid of the toolbar and problem was solved.

This problem has been bothering me for about 3 days now.
It is nothing more than only being allowed to have one IE
window open at a time. I am able to open the IE browser
in any of the normal ways but as soon as I open a new IE
window the former one closes out. I have tried
everything i can think of to fix this, maybe it is a
virus like Dave said. My Norton antivirus has not caught
it yet if that is the case. Spyware comes up with
nothing as well...

This was my problem as well. I had Yahoo Companion
Toolbar installed. Go to Add/Remove Program and
uninstall Yahoo Companion if it is on your computer and
this should work. My IE browser is functioning again.
Thanks.

Jason,
From IE> Tools> Internet Options> Advanced> Browsing> uncheck "Reuse windows
for
launching shortcuts."
And... if you have a program running which is blocking pop-up windows (ads)
you may have to disable it. Yahoo companion and Google toolbar have this
feature, as do some other programs.
With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will allow
a new window.
