I am actually trying to send a short music file (not a picture), but I'm
still coming up with this msg. Why does it give us the option of inserting
background sounds if it won't work? Why can't I send my song?

Make sure that file isn't open in some other program.
Windows Mail can't attach documents or images that are
still open elsewhere.

Gary-

I appreciate your attemt to help me, but I'm not trying to attach a music
file. I'm actually trying to send the e-mail with the music playing in the
background, but it doesn't work whether the file is open or not. In fact, I
even tried sending the file as an attachment and setting it in the background
(thinking maybe the problem was that the program could no longer find the
file after the e-mail was sent) but that doesn't even work. Maybe you can
still help me now that you know what I'm trying to do.

Thank You!!!

Sorry, I misread your issue as wanting to send a music file as an
attachment. I don't know how to embed the music file in the email
so it will play in the background when opened. Perhaps one of the
other responders here is familiar with that technique.

f*#k you microsoft

this inability to use a file because it is in use by a folder window or some
preview device is ludicrous, it defeats the purpose of drag and drop.
microsoft, you suck

i only want to send a picture in my email. i don't want no trouble, just
tell me how to send a picture. not an attachment, a picture that is viewable
by the recipient. there are limited settings in the preferences and when one
does insert picture, it still pops up that stupid message. so where's the
cancer?

I'm sure Microsoft has a good reason for this limitation.
There's no reason why you can't use drag and drop on a closed file.

Absolutely normal operation.

This is NOT just a Microsoft or Windows limitation. Most applications cannot
open or access a file that is in use by another application.

Just another example of the idiotic "fashionable" practice of blame Microsoft,
blame Windows, blame Vista...

I get this message even when I reply and there are no photos, music or

Very peculiar! Something in your Windows Mail is corrupted.

As I see it, you have two options:

Switch to Windows Live Mail:
http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

If you would rather not do that, you can try a repair-install of Vista:

So does this mean I have to buy an install DVD, since I did not get one with
my laptop? According to the link, I have to have one.

On the other hand, what is Windows Live Mail? I don't want another program
that is complicated or takes more time. I use the internet for work and
don't need anymore complications.

Thanks.

Many PCs that come without an install DVD come with a program for
creating one. You may be able to do the repair-install after booting to
the separate disk partition where the equivalent of an install DVD is
kept.

Windows Live Mail is Microsoft's new email program. It appears they
plan to replace Windows Mail with Windows Live Mail, and are already
putting more effort to improving Windows Live Mail. It can connect to
webmail based email servers, which Windows Mail cannot.
Thanks.

Hello,

Nearly every time I try to forward something with images in it like simple
artwork, I get this message and the images are not included. What do I do?

Thanks.

Are the pictures closed in all other programs before you try to forward
them?

I am getting these messages on both incoming and outgoing even when there
are no pictures, no attachments, no nothing. Anyone know why?

G

For the outgoing messages, do you have the picture files closed in all
other programs before you attach them in Windows Mail? Do you have
the pictures as files on your computer instead of pointers to files
elsewhere?

R

richard

I get the message on both incoming and outgoing without any pictures or other
attachment or insertions in message text being involved whatsoever.

What if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them keep adding
attachments to all the messages.

Also, have you enabled a signature file? If so, you may have tried to
include a picture in your signature, which can cause problems.

Have you enabled stationary for your email? It often comes across as
pictures.

I tried using windows live mail and it works as long as the person you are
sending it to is also using live mail.
