On restart, New Hardware Wizard thinks printer is new

On every restart, the New Hardware Wizard detects the
printer device (Xerox Workcentre) and I either have to
ignore it or reinstall it.

I see that Microsoft acknowledges a bug and has a service
bulletin regarding it (298370).

However, their suggestion is to delete the key

under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\LPTENUM

To the right of that is the "default" reg_sz file which
I've tried to delete, but it's not allowed.

Is that the key that I am to delete and if so, HOW?

Also, I see that there are other "controlset"
directories "001" and "003". What are they for?
