Hi John,
In response to your question about trying some suggestions you sent
previously.
I have searched my C: drive after failing to find the file " ffdshow
codec " via the map you laid out for me, so I conducted a search and
it came up with nothing, meaning it could not find the file anywhere
on the computer.gave me.
As to the suggestion that I try to disable the ffdshow file via
regsrv32.exe I was unable to correctly administer that command via
"RUN" using an assorment of the directions you gave me. For example,
when I tried to RUN regsvr32 either as just that, or as regsvr32.exe
or regsvr32.exe /u it came up with the message, as follows:
No DLL same specified.
Usage: regsvr32 [/u][/s] [/n] [/[:cmdline]] dllname
/u Unregister server
/s Silent; display n message boxes
/i Call DllRegisterServer; this option must be used with /i
Going to
http://tinyurl.com/bqgyx gave me nothing. I checked for the
codecs mentioned and they were NOT on my computer.
Going to
http://tinyurl.comfw76b - I tried the suggested "changing
the name of InyerVideo temporarily but was not allowed to make that
change.
Lastly, the google groups was merely another way to get to
http://tinyurl.comfw76b
having said that - you never answered my question in my post about the
"QUESTION MARK" on the icon for the file "moviemk.chm - which I got
to by going into MovieMaker/MUI/0490 and it was there.
You're assist will be greatly appreciated.
Richard

Thanks for the info.
Sounds like we are getting nowhere fast.
Did you uninstall IE7?
As for the ffdshow command...you run it 'exactly'
as I posted it: (your best bet may be to copy / paste)
regsvr32.exe /u "C:\Program Files\ffdshow\ffdshow.ax"
You may receive a dialog that states it could not be found.

Are you saying...Yes...you have the following folder???
"C:\Program Files\InterVideo"
And you cannot right click the InterVideo folder
and rename it to TempInterVideo?
Might be worth a try to force a reinstall of Movie Maker.
===
The following steps previously offered by
Carlos, MCSE are supposed to reinstall
MM2.1.
(you'll need your Windows XP Disk)
1. Go to C:\Windows\inf
2. Right click on Moviemk.inf and click on Install
3. When it asks for your Windows XP cd put
it in and browse to the I386 folder. Click OK
===
Another way to reinstall Movie Maker 2.1 is to
download and re-install Win XP SP2.
Download Windows XP SP2

Generally, users install from the net but this
site allows you to download the complete
file to your hard drive before installing.
It's good for a network administrator because
you can burn it on a CD and install it on as
many computers as you need to.
And it's good for a single machine because
if you ever need to install it again...you'll have
it available without waiting for a download.
This is the best I can offer...good luck!
