on-line icon

I believe that there should be an icon in the
notification area of the task bar to show when you are on-
line (presumably to disappear when off-line).
Unfortunately this little icon does not show at all on my
screen.

I also believe that there is an alternative system
whereby a different icon appears all the time, being
slightly different depending whether the PC is on-line,
or off-line.

Can anyone throw some light on this please?

Open Control Panel and double-click Network Connections. Right-click your
network connection and make sure "Show icon in notification area when
connected".
