OL2007: Replying in color to plain text message

I have reply text set to a color with name in brackets. When I reply to a
message sent as plaintext, *change format to html*, then start typing, text
is in black. My reply name is in bold with italics, so some formatting is
carrying over. Tested on multiple computers.

Without manually changing colors, is there a fix/workaround for this?
