Forced to reply in plain text

I have OL2007 on WinXP.

Many times when I use "reply" or "reply-all", the new mail opens in plain
text, so I cannot use any links or formatting without going to options and
changing to HTML or RTF. My auto-signature is inserted but all the links and
formatting are gone. Its kind of a pain in the neck.

I set using options/mail format to always use HTML format.

Perhaps the program is trying to imitate the sender's format on replies...
not sure, but its often a replay to many people, so if someone is plain text
only, I'd still rather send RTF or HTML for those that can make use of it...

Any ideas or settings to change? Thanks.

That is exactly what Outlook does. If you receive a message in plain text, Outlook will create the reply or forward in plain text. To do otherwise ignores the reality that the recipient cannot know what mail program the original sender might use to receive the reply.

I can understand this perspective, but it fails to take into account that
there might be 10 other recipients of the mail that can and would benefit
from seeing the formatted version.

I was hoping for a way to override the setting so as not to cater to the
lowest common denominator.

Any ideas there?

Thanks,
