Ok, well, I have a windows XP. It had been running fine, but I bit sluggish,
so I downloaded ad aware to get rid of the bits of spyware I had on my
computer. Ran the scan, everything was good, 30 items came up, mostly
cookies, deleted them, all good.

Closed Ad Aware. A popup comes up saying that some important system files
have been deleted and that I should enter to windows XP cd to reinstall them.
I did this, reinstalled them. All good. Told me to restart, so I did.

Now everything just fell apart. When the computer started it told me I could
not access my catalyst control system because I did not have adminstrative
priveleges. First, I didn't even go to the preferences of my catalyst control
system, second, I have adminstrative priveleges! After that a pop up comes up
saying that my anti virus program is gone and that I should probably get one.
I go to the control panel to check what exactly they meant and everything is
gone!
I don't even have a firewall. When I click on the firewall it says "Windows
Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not
running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection
Sharing (ICS) service?" Well, that helps, there is no way to start it.

My computer runs 'fine' right now. I can IM, go on my 3d program, access the
internet, but I have no security. My firewall is not recognized, though I
have a feeling it is still there.

I repeat, this all happened just after using Ad aware. As if ad aware found
some horrible virus too terrible for it or my anti virus and all it needed
was some anti spyware program to uncover it. I am incredibly confused and
worried.

Oh, my system restore doesn't work either.

Help me!

Ad-Aware backs up what it changes -- see the Quarantine list -- and
gives you the ability to undo what it did. Try that.

For now that seems to have worked! I can't believe in my panic I forgot about
checking that. Thanks a lot.
