OK, it's time for a new build

That looks like a really nice board - cracking specs and it even looks the part.

Yeah. I think so, and as Becky said, should last a while.

I've been through the user manual but can't see it, I assume there shouldn't be any issues installing win 10 and booting from the m.2 NVME samsung evo 370? Just a bit concerned as I read somewhere that some don't boot from these but I would imagine a high end board would?

It wouldn't even have occurred to me that it wouldn't be able to boot from an m.2. - as I would assume most people want to use that as the boot/OS drive. I can't answer the question, but I'd be surprised if it couldn't - you could always drop the support team a quick message and see if they can confirm.

Hi,

Last question as I've bought the rest of the components :-)

I had decided on a 1080 TI graphics card but I cannot find it ANYWHERE!! Should I go for a 1070 TI? Or should I get a 2080?

Bodhi

Depends on your budget tbh ;). Both are good cards, but the 2080 is a BEAST - with a price tag to match!

The 2080 TI is ridiculously expensive it the 2080 is more reasonable. Probably overkill though.

My build is going well you’ll all be pleased to know. Some frustrating parts today, mainly with what cables connect where. EATX CPU has 8 and 4 sockets on the motherboard, wasn’t sure if they all needed to be filled but eventually decided yes and used 2 cables.

My case has a weird cable though that I’ve never seen before. I’ve attached a picture. Anyone got any ideas?

Looks like a EATX POWER plug to me.

It’s coming from somewhere on the case, I.e. it was there before i installed any of the components. I can’t see anywhere on the motherboard for it to plug into.

My case came with the Corsair commander pro if that helps?

It's done!

This message is coming to you from my new build! :-)

Specs as follows for anyone that's interested:

Corsair Obsidian 500D SE RGB Case
Asus Maximum Hero Wifi Motherboard
Intel i7 8700K processor
16 GB Corsair 3200 Mhz RGB RAM
Noctua NH15D heatsink and fan (what an absolute monster that is!!)
MSI Nvidia GTX 1070 TI Titanium graphics card (would have got the 1080 ti but they are impossible to find!)
Corsair HX 1000i PSU
Samsung Evo 870 512mb M.2 nvme boot drive
Seagate barracuda 2TB backup drive (I've realised I need to get a 1 or 2 TB SSD drive but I'll get round to that)
I also have an Asus DVD drive but that was only bought for installing windows and all the drivers from the graphics card and motherboard etc. There's actually no space in the machine for it! :-)
I've got the Corsair K63 gaming keyboard and Logitech 502 gaming mouse also.

Pretty sweet setup so far. I shall let you know how it's all going once I get a proper chance to play with it.

Thanks for all your help with recommendations etc. Much appreciated as always.

Looks like a fab build. You'll get tons of enjoyment out of it.

I already have! First machine I’ve built for probably 15+ years and I loved doing it. Also, was teaching my 7 year old son how to build a computer which he loved too :-)

Couple of photos.

1. The size of the heatsink and fan!! Mental.

2. Builds don't come much tidier than this ;-)

Well done. That is a great cpu cooler, I have the same but am using both fans in an open case set up. On tickover just surfing the net my rig is almost silent.
This is a nice touch from Noctua,

Complying with the open SecuFirm™ standard, the NH-D15 can be made compatible with the older LGA1366 and LGA775 sockets using the optional NM-I3 mounting kit, which is provided by Noctua free of charge. If technically possible, Noctua will also provide upgrade kits for future sockets.

What a beast!!!! Just check out that heatsink .

That's a cracking PC you've got there :). Have you had a chance to give it a test with any games yet?

Only Fortnite but from what I understand, that’s not very taxing on a system.

Funnily enough, I want to introduce my son to age of empires II. Probably could have picked up a 486 DX100 for about £20 :-)

That was such a good game! There's a remastered "HD" version on Steam now too :).
