Often 'loosing' joystick device

I have the problem that from time to time I am 'loosing' my
joystick device. What I mean is, that in the Flight Simulator
there is no longer a joystick activated and I have to activate it
via the control panel again to being able to select it in the
Flight Simulator.

Any hints?

USB or game port? Depending on which one it is I would recommend updating
the firmware of the motherboard, driver for the sound card or making sure
you dont have a dying USB port.

the connection is via the game post. Nevertheless I will make
sure that I have the latest drivers. BTW what do you mean by
'having a daying USB port'.

Sounds like he was referring to a hardware failure. (Hope I'm not pointing
out the obvious.)
