Office 97 and Windows XP

I tried to install Office 97 on XP that I just
installed. I keep getting an errmsg not enough memory
but there is plenty of memory - machine is new with
512Mb. Does 97 work on XP or do I need to change a
setting? TIA

Did you do a disk cleanup after the XP install was finished
and reboot?

Most likely your error message is concerning virtual memory
(pagefile). Right click My Computer and select properties.
Then the advanced tab and then performance. You'll see the
virtual memory setting there. After you have set virtual
memory, you must click the set button and then the OK.

Office 97 worked on Win XP Home for me and I don't
remember having any problems re-installing Office 97 after
I upgraded from Win 98 to Win XP. Other than that, I
don't have anything to offer. I don't know if Microsoft
even supports Office 97 any more, I suspect they don't.
Hopefully, someone else has encountered a similar problem
and was able to work around it. Good luck.

Try to uninstall Office 97, Control panel and re-install
office 97, worked for me anyway.

Got enough hard drive space left? Have you set a small max for your
pagefile?

There will probably be something wrong with the page file ('Virtual
memory') settings. You must *not* turn that off. See the problems
section at www.aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm for suggestions
