I have an Intel P4 2.0 ghz machine, with 768MB of ram,
running an ATI 9700 PRO video card, as well as Windows XP
Professional. I recently rebooted this machine, and when
Windows tried to reboot, I got the following error:
Page_Fault_In_NonPaged_Area
I figured I would reboot and try to do a recovery from
safe mode. Not gonna happen, I couldnt even get into
safe mode, I got the same error. So, I decided to format
the machine, and put a fresh copy of XP on it. Well,
after formatting, XP goes into the copying files portion
of the install. My box will get to exactly 44% completed
on the file copying, which happens to be the oembios.bin
file, then it says its unable to copy the file, hit enter
to try again. I hit enter, it trys for a few seconds,
then gives the same error. I tell it to try again, then
I get a blue screen with the oembios.bin error again???
I thought maybe, it was a bad disc. I tried another
brand new Windows XP disc, which had never been taken out
of the package. Same exact outcome. I tried using
different CD Rom Drives. Same exact outcome. Ive even
switched the harddrives in the machine. Same exact
outcome. About the only other thing that I can think of
(which makes absolutely no sense to me) is to remove all
the PCI cards from my system, and try it with just the
video card.
Is this a common error, and if so how can I fix it? What
else can I try to get this fixed? The machine is only 2
years old, and the copy of XP for it is only 6 months
old, should I check with tech support from Microsoft?
