I friend of mine as sent me this problem. But first he as
net sent all the info you my need to help. So here goes
this is his problem.
He is running Windows 98 and he is attempting to upgrade
to XP pro. The install goes fine until about 60% thru it
tells me that it can not find OEMBIOS.bin and reccomends
not proceeding with the install. It is a home built
machine. Any ideas?
I have never seen this before so can some one help please,
email me if you can. (e-mail address removed)
Thanks.

Sounds like he is using a copy of XP that was an Original
Equipment Manufacturer version that was for another
computer. It is coded for the manufacturer's bios to
prevent using on another computer. He must purchase a
retail version of XP for his home built machine. Each
computer has to has its own copy of the operating system.
It can't be shared.

Sounds like your friend has a "BIOS Locked" OEM version of XP. That is to
say that the version is made for a specific computer brand and that his
system is not of that brand.
