OE Spellcheck Lost

G

Guest

Hello,

I lost the ability to spell check Outlook Express email body content -- the
button is grayed out.

I uninstalled several software applications I wasn't using. One, however,
had a shared DLL. I opted to remove it and now regret my decision as I've
lost spell-check capabilities in Outlook Express. I have self-supported this
issue thus far but with no luck. The most I could find was to reinstall
"CSAPI3T1.DLL" in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof" but
it didn't fix the problem.

Any ideas?

Thank you.
Mike

Hi

Try a 'Detect and Repair' of MS Office.

You will probably get a faster and more expert answer if you post this to an
Outlook Express news group.

Try posting in one of these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x
microsoft.public.internet.outlookexpress.mac for OE for Macintosh

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups).

If you're accessing the Microsoft newsgroups through the MS Product Support
Services Community Newsgroups web interface, click
http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp?icp=InternetExplorer
to get to the Internet Explorer groups, then click the plus sign next to
your version of IE to see the link to the Outlook Express group for that
version number.

A good website for information on OE is:

First answer: No idea what you're talking about.

Second answer: How do I access the suggested forums? Can I have a link please.

This is my first time using this forum.

Will,

You recommended "Try a 'Detect and Repair' of MS Office." The OP was
asking about an Outlook Express spell check issue. How would the
OP resolve a spell check issue in OE6 if he/she didn't have MS Office
installed?

I agree with all others that the OP would be best served by posing his
question(s) to the Outlook Express MVPs.

I ended up dealing with this using software from majorgeeks, plus I added
tinySpell which is pretty cool.

Thank you.

I have no hard numbers but I would suggest a good majority of users of Outlook
Express avail themselves of the spell-checking from MS Office since OE does
not have its own spell-check.

If OP does not have MS Office installed then they would naturally ignore this
advice from Will, which I think is valid advice and one place to start.

Mayhaps one of the applications removed was MS Office, which took out the
spell-check OE had been utilizing.

Oh, I stand corrected. I have spell check in OE6 but then again,
I also have MS Office 2003.

Was under the assumption that OE had its own spell checker. So,
if a user doesn't have MS office, he/she wouldn't have a spell checking
facility in OE6. Hmmmm. That's uncool.

Thanks for enlightening me!

Note, however, that there are also third-party spell-checkers that will work
in OE. Microsoft Office isn't the only choice.

Hi - this isn't a forum, it's a newsgroup. You just happen to be accessing
it through a web interface, which is clumsy at best.
Consider using a newsreader like Outlook Express or Forte Agent instead-
it's a lot easier to do nearly everything there, including searching, which
is always a good idea to do before you post, as well as mark messages to be
watched, and filter based on replies to your posts.

The Microsoft public news server is msnews.microsoft.com and you can
subscribe to as many groups as you like.

Not all is lost<g>

There are other third-party spell-checkers that can be used with OE when a
user does not have MS Office installed.

A 'net search will turn up many.
