lost outlook express spell checking

Mike

I lost the ability to spell check in Outlook Express. I
have Office 97 installed. It shares the Word spell
checker. It was working fine. I find in the knowledge
base the cause of the problem but not how to fix it.

Thanks, for your help in advance.

OE 6 does not come with it's own spell check. You need Word or an MS
Office program or you can download a free spell check at one of these
sites.

Spell Checking does not work in OE:

http://mvps.org/PracticallyNerded/OE/OE_Spell check.htm

Or:

And: An error occurred while the spelling was being checked or: Spell
Check was halted:

Go here, and scroll down to the "Spellchecker" section.

He stated that Office 97 is installed, so that should make Spell Checker
work.

That's why I posted 3 links that at least one should solve the
problem.

Hi Mike,

Common issue between Office 97 and XP. Easy fix:

Manual Edit:

Go to Start/Run/EXPAND X:\i386\CSAPI3T1.DL_ C:\CSAPI3T1.DLL (Where X is your
CD-Rom drive letter). And then copy it to: Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof

Or download the file here: Replace the Csapi3t1.dll file
http://www.tech-pro.co.uk/howto_010.html

An error occurred while the spelling was being checked.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q224176

Checkpoint: Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools

In the right pane where it reads: SharedFilesDir, verify that it reads:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared under Data.
