spell check

I have Windows XP with SP2.

When I spell check with various search engines, the checking (no matter what
checking program that I'm using) ALWAYS misses numbers.

For example, take the word CAT. If I spell it cet, it gets caught by the
spell checker. If the word is misspelled c4t, no spell checker captures it.

What is the problem and how can I fix it?

Thank you,

Most search engines and spell checkers in general will ignore numbers...
Spell checking programs,
like the one included with Windows Mail in Vista have a Box in Options to
set if one wants
numbers ignored or not. So the spell checkers think c4t is a model number or
apartment number
or similar.

This isn't a Windows XP issue, it's a configuration setting/issue with
whatever spell checker you are using. Look for "ignore words with
numbers" and uncheck it. Otherwise, use a spellchecker that does provide
that capability.

Why ask HERE? XP does not have ANY spell check capabilities. Ask in
a group that has something to do with your spell check program -
perhaps an OFFICE group if you have OFFICE installed.

You're right, WinXP doesn't have spell check capability. I asked here
because I was looking for suggestions from experienced personal computer
users.

My spelling not perfect -- in fact it's far from perfect. Other than being
FORCED to use a MS (MS = Microsoft) application. like MS Word 2003, can
someone here suggest a good spell checker?

Thank you,

What apps are you using that need spell checking.

Maybe all that you need is some new eye-glasses and to type slower,
huh???

MS Notetab and clones that allow me to change the background color when
white is too bright for my eyes.

Firstly, I wrote that my typing is not good. And I am not about to take a
training course at age 63.

Secondly, I just got new eyeglasses.

Sincerely,

Barry Karas
