OE says new messages when there are none

In the last few days, Outlook Express has started showing that 4 new
messages are available even when there are no new messages being
downloaded or displayed in the message pane. OE also sounds the new
message sound with each check of the email account.

I have POP3 mail and OE is checking two accounts. All I can figure is
that there is a corruption in a database somewhere but I cannot figure
where. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi

You can download TweakUI from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp and when
installed go to Programs>Powertoys for Windows XP>Tweak UI - then go to
Logon>Unread Mail - disable it in the right hand pane.

Otherwise the Unread Mail can be disabled via the Registry - navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Youremailaddress],
double click on 'MessageCount' - in the right hand pane - and change the
value to 0(Zero).

***If you do opt for the Registry please 'tweak', please backup the Registry
first. A good program to do this - as well as being able to restore the
Registry - is ERunt:

Do you have any rules set up to delete message if it fits a specific
scenario? If it comes down from the server and then gets deleted by a rule
or moved to a subfolder - it will give you the sound and the unread messages
notice. Do you have a rule to move message to a subfolder?

If you have a Message Rule (includes Blocked Senders) which moves a message
to Deleted Items and marks it as read, it's still "new mail" to OE and
you'll get the New Mail notification.
