OE and Windows Live -- Unistalling OE

Disgruntled MS user

Recently, I received an email from MS saying that I should switch over from
OE 6.0 to Windows Live since the support for OE would be faded away. I did
this switch and instyalled Windows LIVE on my PC. Now I have Windows OE AND
WINDOWS LIVE. I also suspect that I have emails stored in files for BOTH
these programs. Which means one is redundant.

I would like to uninstall OE 6.0 and the files assocaited with that to free
up some disc space. Here are my questions:

1. Is my assumption correct that the emails for WINDOWS LIve and OE are
stored in different files and hence occupying redundant space?
2. Can I remove OE 6.0 without creating problems for MS Office? I hear that
OE is an integral part of MS Office.
3. If I can remove OE 6.0 from my machine without creating problems, then
how do i do this? Is there a script written for this?

One suggestion to MS (which i am sure will fall on DEAF ears) is that befire
you think of asking people to move over to your "NEWER" programs, THINK about
what effect it will have one your users.

1. Yes, they use different files.

2. OE is not part of MS Office. Microsoft Outlook, an entirely
different program than Outlook Express, is.

3. To the best of my knowledge, there's no supported way to uninstall
Outlook Express. There's an incredibly complicated description of how
to do it here, but I wouldn't recommend trying it:

http://www.activewin.com/tips/tips/microsoft/winxp/advanced/8.shtml

To free up the space occupied by OE messages, you can simply delete
all of the messages and then compact all of the folders. Or, if you
won't use OE again, you can remove the files from the store folder. To
find the store folder, run OE and click Tools > Options > Maintenance
Store Folder.

What effect did the change from OE to Windows Live Mail have on you?

OE can't be unsnarled, but if you make the Inbox.dbx file unreadable, it
won't even open.

And if the OP had stated that in either one of his posts, it would have
saved a lot of time. But he didn't, so here we are. . .
