Odd freeze?

There is something which freezes my system for a few seconds. So I tried
reinstalling windows - but it still happens! Nothing in the event log.
If I look in the taskmanager i can see something used all CPU power for
a brief moment but not what...

Anybody know of a program which can track which program it is that
suddenly hogs all cpu power (including mouse input) ?

If by mouse input you mean the mouse will freeze momentarally then go
again, then stop, then go, i had this problem to, it was a bad video
driver. have you updated any drivers on your computer lately?

Everything freezes, can't use the keyboard, can't alt tab, can click or
move the mouse. As i said it remained after a reinstall. the graphics
drivers are the latest ones (nvidia 84.21)

My laptop has been suddenly shutting down in the past 3 weeks...have
scanned, cleaned up, checked for viruses....just dies...when I reboot it is
fine for hours...never know when it can shut down.
