Odd Audio CD Playback Problem

C

CHris Taylor

I suddenly cannot play audio CDs using Roxio CDPLAY.EXE,
Realtek RTLRACK or SLOWBLAST, a program that slows down
music so that you can figure out the notes. Windows Media
Player works fine.

These non-working programs see CDs, list the tracks, but
when I hit the play button, the CD light blinks once and
nothing happens. The programs display no track time or
progress indication, and no music plays.

Can someone recommend the correct registry settings
and /or files and DLLs that are required? Something has
gotten nuked, and I'm not sure what to check.
Uninstalling and re-installing the Realtek AC97 drivers
did not help.

Thanks

Another clue: Event viewer lists "Redbook Error Event ID
6." Does anyone know what error 6 is? Redbook.sys
exists, is listed as "OK" and is version 5.1.2600.1106.
