Object Moved

Well I have been reading every post I can find on this subject for weeks.
Yet, I have found no solution to the following:

Using IE6 on Windows XP SP2 NIS 2005.

At the MSN sight (Whether home page or not) I receive "Object Moved" blah
blah blah click here message on an otherwise white screen. If I click
"here" it does not go to the clicked link but to the last link actually
viewed. If I click back and hit the link again, no problem. If at the
Object Moved page I hit refresh, no problem.

This situation occurs on almost all links. I can assure you I have no
spyware programs running and all Windows security patches etc. are
installed.

Two other observations: First, the Object Moved problem disappears if I
disable NIS? Second, no problems going to MSN or MYMSN via Firefox even
with NIS active. For what its worth, I can find nothing at the Symantec
website on this issue.

I know I'm not the only one with this problem, based on other posts here and
elsewhere. Can't believe Microsoft/Symantec are totally oblivous to the
situation. I did contact both MSFT and Symantec but neither has chosen to
yet respond.

I would appreciate any comments.

Hi Thomas :)

Courtesy of PA Bear -

Longtime/ongoing bug on MSN's end.

http://groups.google.com/groups?q="...up=microsoft.public.*&c2coff=1&sa=G&scoring=d

Fixes:

1. Use a non-MSN homepage

2. Use www.member.msn.com as homepage (requires sign-in)

3. Sign in to MSN Messenger (.NET Passport) first.

4. Upgrade to MSN Messenger v6.2.0137 in WinXP SP2

Hope this helps

Jan :)

Thanks for the info. I saw where you posted the same info to someone else a
couple of weeks ago.

Already had tried your suggestions with no avail.

Can't believe MSFT has allowed this bug to exist for such an extended period
of time. Guess I will continue to experiement with Fire Fox in lieu of IE6
until someone in Redmond wakes-up and smells the coffee.

....

Clearly the problem is caused by Symantec then.
What alternatives are there in NIS?
E.g. can you create a bypass rule with it for this case?
Notice my last reply to bobbyd704:

Subject: Re: Object Moved The Document May Be Found Here

where I noticed that the 302 response comes with some incomplete
HTML.

Can you trace this with and without NIS? (That way you would find
out exactly how NIS is interfering with the 302 response.)
FYI netcap comes with XP Pro in the Support tools.
Even if you don't have a packet sniffer you might be able to capture
the essential data by simulating the request using telnet.

Good luck
