Sometimes I get the feeling that magineer02 is screwing with you.
He/she/it seems to be totally unable to follow the simple instructions
you are giving he/she/it.
I admire your persistence, but I really have a lot of respect for your
knowledge and attitude and patience.
Thanks again!!!!!!!

Well, imagine if the shoe was on the other foot, and
someone was trying to teach me modern interpretive dance.
I doubt I could follow the simplest of instructions for that :)
Everyone is good at something.

You are correct and I was being inconsiderate and judgemental.
My apologies to magineer92, who hopefully, will get the problem fixed.

Hello Paul,

No I did not read when Kaspersky started,
it goes directly into normal boot mode.
However, I tried hitting enter after I
selected the USB key to see if I could
get Kaspersky to run and didn't.

@ Buffalo - I have done everything Paul
has asked me to do. Sometimes its not clear
to me. I also stated I've undergone surgery
and asked you to bear with me and I appreciate
Paul's patience and expertise.

As said Paul, everyone has their own forte
and I have mine but computer's isn't one
of them but I'm trying.

@ Hottext - I have done that

@Ben Myers - My computer isn't Vista based its
Windows 7 Professional - no that doesn't not
describe the problems I'm having at present
but I have gotten errors which I've noted .

I think the Kaspersky rescue disk didn't
install correctly. So maybe I should delete
the information on the key and try again?

Thoughts/Suggestions,
Robert

Actually, the article applies to XP as well. The fix is near the bottom of the page.
I strongly suspect you have a corrupt .exe file association.

You may be correct, however after reading
the instructions for XP it says to type in
Explorer. I use Firefox will it still work
if I follow the instruction?

I saved Paul's Kaspersky Rescue Disk instructions
should I need them.

How do I got about formatting the USB key?
Just insert it and type format? I thought
these devices were already formatted for use.

You can use Firefox to download executables, but not to open them.
This is done by the operating system itself. I suggest you create a
restore point in case something goes wrong.

c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

It was formatted to FAT32 by the USB utility.
That's what Disk Management says the file system on mine is.

They are, but you can reformat them, sometimes to a different file
system. Right-click on them in (Windows) Explorer, select format, and
you should see a filesystem pulldown.

(Whether this is the solution to your problem, I don't know; it sounds
plausible that perhaps some BIOSes might not be able to see some file
systems.)

I think you are confusing Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. When you type
"explorer" into the "Open" box, it starts Windows Explorer, a file management program
similar to "My Computer". Firefox and Internet Explorer are web browsers.

I appreciate everyone advice but you have me going in
circles. Remember, I'm the one who has to try each of
these suggestions out and report back and try to make
sense of it all.

That's why I've concentrated my discussions with Paul
to make things easier and Paul has been with me from
the start.

Thanks,

Select "Command Prompt", type "Explorer" and press "Enter".

Another way to find Command Prompt, is to type cmd into
the "Search Programs and Files" box at the bottom. And
if you ever need to run the entire command prompt session
elevated as administrator, you can right-click on the "cmd" found
from such a search, and select "Run as Administrator" from
the context menu.

Right-click on the found "cmd" in that picture, and
you can select Run As Administrator as shown here.

Running elevated isn't always required, but it's good
to know that option is there when you need it (or,
someone suggests it).

OK, my suggestion is, to start a fresh thread.

And give a status update, as to what you're trying
to do, what your symptoms are, what isn't working
and so on.

When you post in a public forum you will get public responses.
It's not your choice to make.

I tried to do this but when I right click on
CMD.exe it doesn't give the option to run as
administrator. I found the regedit and right
clicked on it but it doesn't have the 'run as'
option.

Hello Paul,

Ok I'll do that, please look for it.

Thanks to you and everyone who has
tried to help I appreciate it.
