Numered style - Word instead of number

In Word 2003 I created several styles that had a phrase at the beginning of
the paragraph rather than a number.

EXAMPLE Paragraph text.

These styles were created using Styles/Modify/Format/Numbering, by inserting
the phrase instead of a number. In Word 2007, you can't do this. In the
numbering dialog, the OK button is greyed out unless you insert a number.

The old styles do not Work in Word 2007. The phrase does not show up when I
apply the style to the paragraph. It does show up in existing paragraphs in
the document.

Can anyone think of a way to do this?

Hi MC,

I can get it to work here:

1. Create the paragraph styles you want to link to the *multi-level* numbering
format

2. Home tab, Multilevel numbering: click the little button just to the right.

3. Choose the " define new list style" entry, then click the Format button and
choose "Numbering".

4. Click the "More" button. For the first level, enter the text and remove the
number. Select the paragraph style from the "Link level to style" list.

5. Do whatever else you need to, and don't forget to give the list style a
name.
