Numbers Pasting as Text into Excel from Access 2002

Copying qry results into Excel values in number fields are pasted as text after row 611. Doesn't happen if use Office Link Tool to analyze qry with MS Excel. This is a recent developement, didn't happen before especially if I used the office clipboard but now it does no matter how I copy/paste.
 
This may be caused by an issue addressed in this article.

If your symptoms are similar to what is mentioned here, there is a
workaround in the article, and a hotfix available from Microsoft.
