NTVDM.exe won't run - ntvdm.exe has encountered an error...

Every time I try to run setup.exe to install software
propably with 16bit installer (like Epson printer monitor
or Visual Studio 6.0) I get an error message NTVDM.EXE has
encountered an error... and the execution stops. I have
tried to change compatible mode and do the installation
via control panel and add/remove prorams functionality -
no help so far.

Does anybody have had similar symptoms and any solutions?

Thanks, jarkko

The drivers/software you're installing is probably too old for XP, since
ntvdm essentially emulates dos like envorinments. Try a newer version.

I would say bulshit since it those Epson drivers e.g. are
dedicated to xp.

anybody having similar symptoms?

I am also experiencing problems with older install
packages too. No body on this new group has given me any
info on it. I had installed the Java JDK for J2EE on Win
XP, then my disk crashed, when I rebuilt it with XP again,
I can no longer install the J2EE JDK. The installer never
fully executes, ntvdm.exe runs, cpu pegs at 100%, nothing
else. I don't get any error messages. I just have to go
and kill ntvdm.exe. Other misc installs don't run
either. To add to the frustration, Java JDK J2SE installs
fine. So much for the flexibility of XP....
