I meant After loading the drivers and you Hit F8 to agree on the EULA, then
you will have the Option to Start in Recovery console or Set up select R to
start recovery console, pay attention to the instructions on the screen.

After loading the drivers it says it's starting up and then I get the
STOP 0x0000007B, error right away. I don't even get into anything
else. Then it tells me

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart
your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps.

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard
drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure
it is properly configured and terminated. Run chkdsk /f to check for
hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Techinical Information:

STOP: 0x0000007B ( 0xf78d2524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000).

So I can't even get into any setup menu to get to the recovery
console.

Okay, here's the problem I have. The Error for the first STOP error I
get, I can't follow the direction as I have an OEM installed
opperating system. Even if I didn't and I followed the instructions,
I can't get to a recovery counsel to follow the directions.

The drivers to check the health of my hard drive need to be started in
DOS. I can not get the computer into DOS. I've created a DOS start up
disk, and It goes to the same NTLDR error.

I've read all the other instructions for the NTLDR errors and STOP
errors. Unfortunately, they tell me to use the windows CD rom and go
to the recovery counsel which I can not get to.

I've created a recovery CD with my Panda anti virus in case it was a
virus...but when it loaded, it said it couldn't detect my CD rom drive
and it said " I can't recover from this." So I can not scan for a
virus.

I've checked all the connections that have been suggested with out any
luck.

I did check my hard drive health with the built in S.M.A.R.T short
self test and it passed without any errors.

I did read the trouble with a bootable cd and it did have my stop
error. It says that "After booting the Post-FBA bootable CD, the error
"Stop 0x0000007B" is displayed. This error is displayed when a
critical boot device is missing from your configuration."

So, I tried plugging in all the other devices that normally start up
with my computer back in to see if that was an issue, and it wasn't.
So I'm not sure what critical boot device could be missing from my
configuration.

I am checking it with the extended version test which takes 80
minutes. I will let you know what the results are of that test.

Other than those two tests, I can not use any other utility to check
my hard drive as I can not get to the dos prompt with the dos boot cd
that was created.

At this point, I've read through all the articles that have been given
to me. I'm not sure what to do at this point.

My computer has finished the S.M.A.R.T extended test and has passed.
So my hard drive health is good.

The stop error I get when loading the windows CD means that a critical
boot device from the configuration or your machine requires a critical
boot device for which there is no driver in the
database.

How would I go about finding out if some other hardware were
malfunctioning?

if you can boot up from CD-rom, and then you got error when windows starting
copy files and showing error, stop. maybe your memory has problem. can you
swap a memory from other computer to try it?

M

Melzy

No. I already tried swapping the memory from the slots they were in
to the two empty slots that were there which didn't help.

Right now I'm looking into creating a bootable Dos boot disk which has
the commands so I can check the master boot sector and check the hard
drive and it's files for errors.

Melissa,
Your motherboard it could be going bad or the HDD is gone nuts (forgive me),
try to Hook this HDD as Slave to another NT windows operating system and
rescue the Data from it and try clean install if it will accomplish, if it
didn't then a new HDD will be better option, don't forget with lots of GIGs!.
Or as I said if it is not your cuppa, try the local repair shop.
Also i doubt about your CD-ROM, it could be at fault?.

Okay, I finally figured out why I'm getting the stop error when I load
the windows cd rom. My hard drive is listed as RAID in the bios, and
I'm getting the stop error because the windows CD does not have the
driver. I contacted HP the maker of the computer and ask them if they
had it for me to download. No, and they wouldn't give me the control
driver either. So, now I'm going to contact Samsung to see if they
have it for me to download, or can send it to me. I think once I have
the driver, I should be able to get to the Welcome to Windows part so
I can check the MBR.

Anyone know anywhere else I might be able to find a controller driver
for my hard drive? It's a Samsung SP2504C.

Just go into the bios and disable RAID, you usually don't need it unless you
are running a server or something. The hard drive will still be seen, just
not as a RAID drive.

I did get it to load from the windows CD. I changed it from RAID to
IDE. I did a chkdsk and it did find errors, but it didn't say it
fixed them.

I rebooted my computer and I still got the same error.

Next move is to fix the master boot record. All though it did give me
a warning that if I did try to fix the MBR it could mess up the
partition drives because I have a C drive and a D drive.

Good news! I got the computer started. I copied the NTLDR and the
other file needed to the C drive and it started up. Whew.. Thanks
for all your help! It was appreciated :)
