"NTLDR is missing"

I'm trying to figure out how to resolve this problem, "NTLDR is missing". I
google'd and found a possible solution so I inserted the CD, promted to press
R key to repair windows then log into windows installation by pressing the
"1" key then copy two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk by
doing "copy e: \ i386 \ ntldr c: \"

And I received this "The path or file specified is not valid" I've tried D,
F and G and I still get error file path not valid.

Interestingly, I removed the HDD out of the desktop and reattach the HDD to
another computer which I formatted the HDD completely (it SHOULD have NTLDR
file there) which was successful. Then I reattached the HDD back to the very
same desktop and I still get "NTLDR is missing".

How is that possible? How do I get it fixed?

I got that fixed now... actually the data cable is brand new.

Right now I'm facing boot.ini invalid problem. I'm trying to "rebuilt"
boot.ini but it kept crashing to restart. I''m thinking bad hard drive or
motherboard

:(

I guess I'll take it in computer repair shop to see if the expert tech can
get it working again. So I'm gonna urge my roommate to buy a new one.

i experienced the same thing more than once.
there was a same case which solved by repairing Windows.
But if repairing failed, it's obviously hardware problem.
In my case replacing the memory module solved the problem.

You may want to try to ask your friend to lend you some memory modules to test

Check out the following KB article, step 2 for restoring ntldr and
ntdetect.com files. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318728
You may be putting unneeded spaces between the charaters. Follow the
instructions exactly or it won't work. Also since you said you have already
formatted the drive by putting it in another computer, you just erased all
your data on the drive including the operating system. Now you will get to
reinstall Windows from scratch. Hope you have your data backed up on external
media. If not, you may be able to recover it by slaving the drive into
another computer and using data recovery software such as Recuva by the same
people who make CCleaner. It worked for me to help recover a friend's music
files that he deleted by mistake.
