ntldr missing ctl-alt-del

Lucy

I purchased an used Dell laptop(Inspiron 5000e)without an
OS.
I formated the drive using the W2kPro Cd. NTFS.
It appears not to finish the loading since at about 99%
returns with a blue screen about rebooting the machine if
this is the first time you this error deal. When I reboot
gives a "NTLDR error" I assume this is because it did not
finish the install.
Any ideas about what is bumming the installation.
Any help, ideas, sugestions will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Lucy,

It sounds like it could be a low level hardware issue, or perhaps a low
level/boot sector virus/problem. You can try flashing the bios with the
latest bios from Dell to see if that improves the situation. Dell also has
many diagnostic tools that you may want to look into in regards to a
possible hardware issue.

Also you can try booting into Microsoft's Recovery Console from the Windows
2000 Pro CD-Rom and try running the commands fixboot and fixmbr. These
commands and how to use Recovery Console are covered in this article:
