I have a compaq presario 6000 desktop running XP.
Went in to do a hard drive reformat and cant get passed 10% before it restarts back to the black screen.
Get error ATAPI CD-ROM: No Emulation
I also need to make sure that I have set up the BIOS to boot from the cd. I went in and tried to set it up but Im not sure if I did it right.

Compaq's used to keep part of the BIOS in a hidden partition on the Hard Drive!
Have you changed the RAM Memory at all?
Are you using an Original Copy of XP??

Ok, i finally got the BIOS to boot in the correct order, CD drive 1st, so thats set. BUT still cant get the disk to work. Im thinking it could be scratched? I did one of those disk resurfacing kits on it with no luck. I cant get a copy of the disks from compaq either. And no, havent made any changes the RAM.
