1/ Insert your windows xp cd into your cd-rom and reboot your machine.
3/ When the Welcome to Setup screen appears press F10
3/ This will open Recovery console. You need to specify the installation you
want to use and also log in with your administrator password.
4/ Next type map and press Enter
5/ Make a note of the drive letter you want to reformat. Remember the drive
letter may be different in recovery console compared to xp.
6/ Type format x: /fs:fat32 In place of the 'x' insert the drive letter you
wish to format. Now press Enter
7/ Confirm your choice by pressing Y followed by Enter
8/ After the drive has formatted type exit followed by Enter to restart your
pc

I don't think you can revert back to FAT32. It is a
warning in the XP Help files. Go Start Button-->Help File

Search for Convert, or NTFS. May need to reformat the
drive. See the help files for a more precise answer.

If you have data on the NTFS back it up to removable (Zip
Disks, or CD-R) or another drive. Then reformat the drive
to FAT32 loosing all contents. You can do this by booting
under Safe Mode on reboot hit F8. This will load WinXP
with a minimum configuration. Go to the drive you want to
format as FAT32 right click choose Format, choose FAT32.
This is not conversion but reformating which will erase
all data on that drive. If the drive has the WinXP you
will need to reinstall the OS from scratch and carefully
choose FAT32 or reformat with DOS.

This is not to discourage from converting to NTFS. If you want to take
advantage of the security features in XP, you should convert to NTFS.
What you should know before you convert:
1.You cannot revert back to FAT without using third-party software. Windows
XP does not provide the tools for switching back from NTFS to FAT.
2.You cannot uninstall Windows XP and revert to a previous Operating System
after conversion. The conversion process will remove the previous OS backup.
3.In Multiple booting situations, only Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows
NT 4.0 (with Service Pack 4) can access NTFS volumes. If the computer has
Windows 95, 98, Me and Windows XP, you must use FAT on any partition that
Windows 95, 98 or Me must access.
4.Back up your data before conversion.

convert c: /fs:ntfs

Format C:.

Seriously, there is no way, native to Windows, to convert an NTFS
partition to FAT32 short of deleting it, recreating it as a FAT32
partition, and then formatting it. To accomplish the goal
non-destructively, you'll need to use a 3rd-party partitioning
utility.

You'll need third-party software such as Partition Magic to accomplish this
without re-formatting the drive or partition, and XP will neither create nor
format a partition as FAT32 which is greater then 32GB's in size, so you'll
need an old 9.x or Win ME boot disk if this is the case :)

Thanks Bruce,
Reading your post, I just realized my answer is way off. I thought he wanted
to convert to NTFS.

Greetings --

Natural mistake. ;-} Personally, I can't imagine any reason that
anyone would want to convert from NTFS to FAT32, unless a dual-boot
with Win9x is the goal.
