ntfs or fat32, which is better gor my unusual

I would really appreciate it if some of the experts here could give me a
quick opinion on this.

I use my computer also exclusively for gaming and browsing the net. I am
aware ntfs is the system ms recommends that people use with win xp.

But when I look t the reasons why I am not sure they apply to me.

I have an 80gb hard frove divided into two partitions.
The fist partition id the main one and id 50 gd in six. The second one has
the other 30.

Now my wife and I are the only ones eho use this computer and it is in a
very safe plac, SSo I have absolutely no need for the security features.
After ever internet visit I rin Spybot, ad aware and an up to date virus
checker.

I am totally satisfied with using winzip and winrar do I
dont need the compression features.

I run scan disc ever day and defrag once a week,
I keep a backup of everyone important to me once a week and sometimes more
often than that.

I an satisfied with fat32 the way it works on my system.
So the only thing I can see ntfs giving me is more efficient disc use
because of file sizing feature. But I only keep one game at a time onmy
system so my main partion is never more than a sourth full now.

I realize I sound like I am trying to make a case for keep
fat332, and I guess I probably am. I have the old "if it aint broke don't
fix it attitude" and as far as I can tell my system ain't broke. And on the
few occasions that there is a minor problem I know how to fix it. Basically
I guess I just do nit like change, But the fact that ntfs is newer and
supposed to be better is sort of magging at me.

An I missing something that I need that ntfs can provide?
Something I don't know about or understand.
Thats my question and I would really like opinions. In view of the fac that
I don't need or eant btfs's features is there a good reason I am unaware of
that would make be better off having it?

Please not that I am not asking which file system is better in general, I am
asking would it be btter for me or would it just be adding extra overhead
that I don't need.

P.S. One more thing. I still am running windows98se and am very happy with
the way it rund for me. I like to playa lot of old DOS games that winxp
would have a problem with. But have purchased awinxp pro disc and I realize
that at some point I am going to have to install it.

I am trying to learn as much as I can about xp before I install it. And I
know that the fat32 or ntfs question is one of the things I will have to
decide about when I do the install.

I would really like to stay on fat32 because it works fine for me in win98.
But I understand xp is an altogether different system.

So with no security or stability cconcers is the remaining advantage of
better usage worth making the change.

Forgive me please if this note is a little jumbled, I am wrting it at 7:34
am after being uo all night reading about xp.

ANY thoughts about any of this would be greatly appreciated.would be
appreciated.

If you are still running Win98, you MUST stay with the fat32 partition
scheme. Win98 is NOT compatible with the NTFS file system.

You didn't say if you were dual booting into WinXP.

If you are happy - stay where you are!

I've been having the same dilema since getting my new latop with windows XP.
As I understand it, there's a small performance hit with the speed of the
HDD when using NTFS, and this concerns me, as my latop HDD is 4200rpm
anyway, and considering the demanding games I play on it, I'm concerned that
this will have a negative effect on the speed of the games.

I find it strange that manufactorers format new HDD's under FAT32, when they
know the system is capable of using NTFS. Could it be to have that slight
performance gain when peddling thier new systems? I dunno, and I can't
decide what to do either.
