NTBackup Security

I have set up NTBackup to run as a scheduled task as a
certain user. It will run fine as this user. When I log
off and switch to a different user it will not run and I
get an exit code of 80. Because it works one way and not
the other I am assuming that I am having a security
issue. When I right click the scheduled tasks and bring
up properties I don't get the security tab. I would think
I could adjust the security settings there if I could get
to them.

Shouldn't this task run in the background anyway if the
user who owns the task has administrative privileges?

If I'm overlooking something and someone could point me
in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Hi,

user that you defined in schedule job also has to have the right on the
system "Back up files and directories" and/or "Restore files and
directories" (assigned by local or group policy)...

If you don't have domain then run the local policy editor and expand
computer configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local
Policies -> User rights assignment and here look for appropriate rights.

Thanks for your response.
The user that I used to create the scheduled job is a
member of the administrator and backup operator groups.
I double checked where you mentioned, and both groups
have those rights.

I did find sort of a workaround that will work for me.
I can just leave the creator running in the background
and switch users. I still have the ability to password
lock each user and I get the backup which is all I really
require.

Again thanks for your help.
