NTBackup/Information Store problem

Hello folks. I am having a problem with my scheduled "Full" backups. Here is
configuration.
Windows 2k Small Business Server.
Backing up System State,C Drive, D Drive and Information Store.
Backup device is a file on a USB connected drive.

If I attempt to catalog the Information Store, I get this error.
"Unexpected end of backup"

If I attempt to catalog the C Drive, I get this error.
"The backup file is unusable. You must erase it, or choose another file."

If I attempt to catalog the D Drive or System State it works.

I can see that something bad happens during the verify.

I suspect this is being caused by a corrupt Information Store because
that is the first thing that is backed up and the C drive comes next.
Is this normal if you are backing up a store that has an error in it?

This would best be posted in microsoft.public.exchange.admin....

....that said, most people recommend disabling 'verify' -
.....if you do a test job that includes only the information store, what
happens? If you do a test backup of the information store to disk (not
tape), do you get the same results?

Re information store corruption - are you noticing anything at all that
would lead you to this conclusion? Event log errors, performance issues, etc
?
