NT Backup does not recognize drive

Hello,
I have XP pro SP3. I tryed to install a new USB thumbdrive in the machine
before I doing anything then, when I attempt to start the NT backup program
and as I go through the wizards steps to create a backup, I get to the point
of browsing to the assigned drive letter for the USB thumb drive and the
program reports it does not recognize the external media. I've tryed using 2
new thumb drives without success. Sometimes it will intermittently recognize
the thumb drive and backup successfully. How can I correct this? Thank you.

You need to post more details:
- Are you running ntbackup in the foreground or as a scheduled job?
- What do you mean with "install a new USB thumbdrive"?
- Is the drive partitioned and formatted?
- What do you see when you type this command at a Command Prompt:
mountvol.exe

Hello,
Thank you for your reply. I assume its running in the foreground because I
know its not a scheduled task. All I mean by "new USB thumb drive" is that it
was store bought and has no problems working. Yes the USB drive is allready
partioned and formatted. When I first attach the USB drive the pc recognizes
it successfully and allows me to open the drive and create new folders
without incident. I hope this helps.

I seems that the USB drive is constantly changing drive letter and NT
Backup is confused.

That's what I thought but the OP claims that he's running ntbackup
interactively, in which case he gets a choice of drive letters and folders.

I have decided to use another USB drive which NTbackup successfully
recognizes and verifies successfull. Thank you for your time.

Sounds like a workable work-around.

Back to the USB stick: Was anyone looking in My Computer to be certain
of the drive letter assigned to the stick? It won't necessarily always
be the same letter. Also, I assume there had to have b een one or more
Restarts during the time of testing it, right?

Just a thought,

Twayne`
