windows dont recognize USB2.0 external hard drive 2.5"

after connecting to USB port of desktop PC USB2.0 external hard drive 2.5",
windows dont recognize it does not shown. New WD portable HDD 500Gb, worked
when checked in store.

Can you see it in Disk Management but with no drive letter assigned?

Not good. If it doesn't have a seperate power supply, it is
possible that your motherboard USB ports cannot supply enough
power. If that is the case, you can get USB 'Y' cables which
plug into 2 USB ports to provide extra USB power to the drive.

If it came with a separate power supply, then try different USB
ports - if none work, then it could be a faulty drive or power
supply.

everything I could think of, I opened the case and the drive was not
plugged into the case correctly. Did it right and it worked fine.

Rob asked the above, not if it showed in the Device Manager. Try Control
Panel, Administrative Tools, Disk Management
