NT Backup cannot use tape drive

We are running Veritas BE on a Windows 2000 serrver with
SP 2. We find ourselves in the position of having to
perform a full backup of the server using NT Backup
instead of Veritas. However, when I try to perform the
backup, I get the following error message: There is no
unused media available. In the Removable Storage console,
the tape drive itself is disabled, although the Enable box
is clicked in Properties. Veritas is successfully
performing backups, so the tape drive itself functions. I
am wondering if Veritas is somehow keeping hold of the
tape drive so that NT Backup cannot use it, although I do
successfully stop the Veritas services before I try to use
NT Backup.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Stop all Veritas services & reboot the box. Then go to the Removable Storage
Manager mmc and see what you see there - is the drive enabled now? Disable
then re-enable it - ??

Thank you. I will try to find a time to reboot the
machine, although that won't be possible for some days.
Until I can do that, any other suggestions any one might
have would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.
