nt 4 and win 98 cannot find domain server

Recently added a server to a small network, we are
running 2k AS. AD,WINS and DNS are configured. When
trying to add the clients the XP and 2k machines have no
problem with being added. The win 98 and nt4 boxes give
an error message no domain controler found. I'm sure it's
somthing small I'm missing but can not figure it out. I
can still see the 98 and nt clients in the network and
they can acess the server.

Could you clarify a few issues? The W2K AS must be the "PDC emulator" on the
domain, no other NT4 PDC may be present in the netbios namespace. An NT4 BDC
can only participate in this network if the W2K AD domain is running in
mixed mode. Last, but not least, the Win9x and NT4 stations don't understand
FQDNs, did you specify the domain's netbios name in their network properties
and were their clients correctly configured for user-level access?

Did you install WINS on the same W2K DC that acts as "PDC emulator"? Since
Win9x and NT4 rely mostly on netbios name resolution and since WINS doesn't
record it's own address in its database, you might have to manually add this
record.

If multiple NICs are involved, did you check your network binding order?
