Windows 2000, XP, WINS, DNS

We are running in a mixed mode enviroment that includes 95,98,NT4,Win2K and XP workstations. We have DNS setup for dynamic updating. In 95/98/NT we setup the WINS server addresses, and on the WIN2K and XP we setup DNS for Dynamic Updating. We also these up for WINS. Is this necessary? Does XP and WIN2K Pro require both to be used at the workstation

Thanks in advance.

Hi Curtis!

Have you looked into using the DNSUpdateProxy group? It can enable DHCP
to enter DNS information for down-level clients so that they are
dynamically updated as well.

You could use DNS for everything and eventually remove WINS.

Hope this helps! bill
