Novell 3.12 logon with Win 2000

Yes, believe it or not we still do work with a Novell-
server (version 3.12). The server is merely used for
file-sharing and lookup into historical data.

Until a few weeks ago every one was still able to logon,
however since downloading several items from the windows-
update site a few Windows 2000 machines aren't able any-
more to logon to the Novell-server.

Anyone idea's ? Uninstalling the updates didn't
gave the result we want.

Thank you in advance and kind regards,

Douwe

have you done any basic troubleshooting whatsoever? a simple reboot probably
isnt going to get you out of this situation this time.....

have you checked your ipx settings server & client side? anything...at all?

Make sure you haven't inadvertently installed a firewall
program that blocks IPX packets. MacAfee Personal
Firewall 3.0 blocks IPX by default. CheckPoint SecuRemote
Client 4.1 also blocks IPX packets, if you select Desktop
Security on installation.

We do not have installed a firewall.

The firewall we have was already installed
when the Win 2000 PC's were able to logon.

It has something to do with the update with
windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Like already
answered to Keith Win XP machines are still
able to logon. All Win 2000 PC's aren't
able to logon anylonger after updating.

Uninstalling the updates wasn't succesfull
either.
Re-installing networkconnectivity, protocols,
etc. wasn't also succesfull.

Any other idea's ?

My PC is up to date with all hotfixes from the Microsoft
update web site, and I have no problems with accessing a
Novell 3.12 server using IPX packets. It sounds like you
need to call someone with a network packet sniffer to
troubleshoot your network.

Are your W2K workstations on the same network segment as
the XP workstations? Are you using twisted pair or coax?
Could it be a hardware problem (terminator, bad server
NIC, dead hub)?
