Notification sound?

Hi,

I'm using Outlook 2003 and I would like notification when I receive
emails by sound. Currently, it does work... When I receive an email, I
hear a 'dong' sound, the default windows XP one.

Thinking it was working, I followed the insutrctions to change the
sound. Control panel -> Sound and audio -> sounds -> Windows -> New mail
notification

Sadly, no matter WHAT I change it to, I always get the default sound.
I've tried everything, but I cant get any other sound :(

I've tried restarting outlook, restarting the PC, turning sounds on and
off, installing the office sounds pack to no avail.

How can I have a custom sound?

Thanks in advance

In control panel, sounds, use the browse button to select a custom sound.
Make sure OL is set to Play a sound in Tools, options, email options,
advanced email options. Also set up custom notification of new mail on that
page. Use the Preview button there.

Hi,

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately I tried that but to no avail. I still
keep getting the dong sound, no matter what I try :(

Any more ideas?

This is a result of a registry errror and it has been discussed several
times in this and some of the other Outlook groups already. A few seconds
at Google Groups will find the other messages with the solution.

In Control Panel | Sounds change 'New Mail Notification' to something else
and 'Okay' your way back out. Reboot. Go back and change it to what you
want. 'Okay your way back out and reboot again. See if it sticks this
time.
