notification area

[DJD]

I have lost the arrow in the notification area that
allows me to see inactive icons. Also, icons in the
properties for programs no longer on my system are still
there but with an active program icon. How do I restore
the arrow and remove icons for the programs I no longer
have?????????
Any assistance would be greatly welcomed! Thank you.
